Professional Learning Alternative

Call To Action

Our main goal is to create lifelong learners who can contribute to society. To achieve this, we need to help our teachers grow and embrace lifelong learning. They will then inspire our students to love learning too. Currently, most professional learning is a one-size-fits-all "Sit & Get" approach, which leaves new teachers confused and overwhelms veteran teachers with redundant information. Just like students, our teachers also need personalized learning. We aim to use a "Go and Show" blended learning approach that offers teachers choice, ownership, and a voice in their professional development, ultimately benefiting more teachers and, by extension, more students.

THE "WHY"

Our main goal is to create lifelong learners who can contribute to society. To achieve this, we need to help our teachers grow and embrace lifelong learning. They will then inspire our students to love learning too.

However, despite the many hours teachers spend in professional development each year, most of these sessions are not very effective. In fact, a study by Gulamhussein (2013) found that around 90% of teachers reported participating in professional development, but many of them also felt that it didn't help them much.

THE WHAT

THE HOW

Professional Learning:

We aim to emphasize the urgent necessity for transformation in professional learning. The Go & Show Blended Way" is our method. Our goal is to be visually supportive while we personally deliver and advocate for our organization to incorporate innovative professional learning concepts and explain the reasons for this change to our administration through the use of Google Slides and other technological workspaces and software's.

To determine the best format for my presentation, I considered various media options. I opted for a video to model interactive learning and enhance participant engagement. Unlike a PowerPoint presentation, a canva slide coupled with interactivity aligns more closely with the five key principles of professional development, based on my experience. I explored different platforms for creating the presentation, including google slides and prezi, both of which I am proficient in. Although I had recently joined Canva as an educator for my Innovation Proposal  , I found it user-friendly. The decision was clear once I figured out how to embed the Canva presentation. I proceeded to create my presentation in Canva, utilizing a range of graphic and text options that would enhance the flow and resonate with the participants. Backed by research, I simplified and used visuals to represent meaning, keeping participants focused on the message without distraction. While designing the presentation, I kept in mind Simon Sinek's advice not to over-explain everything and aimed to meet the needs of both verbal and visual learners. This approach was applied throughout the creation process to maximize the impact of the presentation.
